Autumn is just around the corner and the Jackson Spartans want to celebrate with you! Come out to MSU’s beautiful Hidden Lake Gardens in Tipton, MI and enjoy the fall colors along the way. Bring a blanket and picnic or register for a (free sold out) ticket to enjoy grilled hot dogs. The weather is expected to be beautiful on Sunday.

Admission is free but there is a fee to Hidden Lake Gardens. A reduced rate of $5 per car has been offered for the day if you say “Jackson Spartans” at the gate.

A schedule of events

All day, all around, check for details at the visitor’s center:
Hiking on one of the 9 hiking trails of varying lengths (including an accessible trail)
Drive the Scenic Woodland Drive & Arboretum Road to see the Fall colors
Self-guided scarecrow walk


At the Visitors Center:
Check out the gardens (guided tour at 2pm) Meet behind the VC by the “large spider web.”


At the picnic pavilion:
Come get your picture with Sparty! 1:30pm-2:15pm
Hot dogs (with ticket) 12:30pm-2:00pm
Free MSU pom-poms and swag at the Jackson Spartans table
Stop in for a quick game of Corn Hole
Tractor-pulled hayrides 12pm-2pm (Loading and unloading station at the Picnic Pavilion.)
Mini-pumpkin painting (the paint will take a few minutes to dry; we recommend stopping in early with your kids, then enjoy the gardens, just don’t forget to collect your artwork before you leave)


At the Domed Plant Conservatory (open 9am-6pm):
Guided Conservatory tour at 1pm (meet in front of the Conservatory Entrance)


At the lake:
Catch-and-release fishing from the sand beach at the north end of Hidden Lake for kids 10 and under. Catch and Release only. Bring your own fishing tackle! (Parental supervision required.) 11am-12pm


At the pond:
Ponding – Collect and identify critters from the pond 1pm-3pm (check-in at the tables next to the pond.)

Jackson Spartans will wrap up our events by 4pm, but the gardens and trails remain open until 7pm (visitor’s center closes at 6pm).
